| How does
CranioSacral Therapy Work? |
|
CranioSacral Therapy
(CST) is performed on a person fully clothed. Like the pulse of
the cardiovascular system, the CranioSacral system has a rhythm
that can be felt on the body. Using a light touch generally
no more than the weight of a nickel the practitioner monitors
the rhythm of the craniosacral system to detect potential restrictions
and imbalances. The therapist then uses delicate manual techniques
to assist the natural movement of the fluid and related soft tissue
to help the body self-correct.
|
| What Conditions
Does CranioSacral Therapy Address? |
| CST strengthens
your body's ability to take better care of you. It may help alleviate
a range of illness, pain and dysfunction, including: |
- Migraines and Headaches
- Chronic Neck and
Back Pain
- Stress and Tension-Related
Problems
- Whiplash Injuries
- Chronic Fatigue
- Scoliosis
- Emotional Difficulties
- Temporomandibular
Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- And Many Other Conditions
|
|
| What is SomatoEmotional Release? |
Sometimes emotions surface during a CST treatment. This
is because tension in the body may be connected to strong feelings.
As muscles and nerves relax, it is possible to remember or even re-experience
the original emotion associated with your tension. Your therapist
understands the SomatoEmotional Release (SER) process, and can help
you deal with this response.

The therapist utilizes
soft tissue releases designed to restore balance to the musculoskeletal
system naturally. Several modalities are used such as Positional
Release (PRT), cross fiber friction, myofascial massage, classic
Muscle Energy Technique (MET), and energy touch release. It is NOT
a chiropractic manipulation.
MET engages the client
to contract (with minimal pressure) muscle groups that are shortened,
against therapist resistance. This process when repeated, resets
the resting length of the shortened muscle, thus improving range
of motion. In PRT, the therapist pulls or pushes tissues to ease
pain while a cross-fiber motion for about 90 seconds softens them.
The tissues are then reassessed.
|
| The client
is fully clothed as the protocol sequence releases and balances both
lower and upper body restrictions that may be causing pain. The
goal is to get the client to ZERO PAIN. |
|
Deep
Tissue/Myofascial Release
|
|
| Deep tissue/deep
muscle massage is administered to affect the sub-layer of musculature
and fascia. It releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body
through slow strokes and applied pressure on the contracted areas.
|
| Similarly,
myofascial release involves the application of stretches and pressure
to the fascia and muscles. It relieves tension and pain by releasing
and lengthening the fascia, which allows muscles to return to their
correct position, length, and function. |
| So what
is fascia and how is it important to my muscle tension? |
| Fascia supports
and covers your muscles and everything else, including organs, bones,
and nerves. It can become restricted and inelastic from trauma such
as accidents and surgery, as well as from poor posture, chronic inflammation,
and overuse. Restrictions pull on muscles and other structures, causing
tightness, pain, and limited movement. Fascial restrictions can be
expressed as discomfort sometimes in places distant from the root
cause. |

Swedish
Therapeutic Massage for relaxation and stress management
|
| One of the
most commonly taught and well-known styles, Swedish is a system of
treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation
and calming the nervous system. Therapists use a combination of long
strokes, kneading, vibrational, or percussive movements, with the
application of lotion or oil to reduce friction on the skin. It stimulates
the more superficial layers of muscles, and these techniques may be
combined with active and passive movements of the joints. It is used
primarily for full-body sessions and promotes general relaxation,
improves blood circulation and range of motion, and relives muscle
tension. |
|
The
BodyTalk System
|
 |
BodyTalk is an astonishingly
simple and effective form of therapy that allows the body's energy
systems to be re-synchronized so they can operate as nature intended.
Each system, cell and atom is in constant communication with each
other at all times. Through exposure to the stresses of day-to-day
life, however, these lines of communication can become compromised,
which then leads to a decline in physical, emotional and/or mental
well-being. Reconnecting these lines of communication enables the
body's mechanisms to function at optimal levels, thus preventing disease
and rapidly accelerating the healing process. In this way, BodyTalk
stimulates the body's innate ability to balance and heal itself. BodyTalk
can be used as a standalone system to treat many health problems or
can be seamlessly integrated into any healthcare system to increase
its effectiveness.
